Mr Richard Wood

Director – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Barwon Health
Consultant – Royal Melbourne Hospital & Barwon Health
Practice Principal Surgeon – Surf Coast OMS, Geelong

It is our pleasure to introduce Mr Richard Wood our Practice Principal Surgeon at SurfCoast OMS (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons). Having gained his specialty qualification (FRACDS(OMS)) in 2009 after completing his training  in Victoria, Richard has located with his young family, comprising of his wife and 4 young children to the coastal region of the Bellarine peninsula. He commenced private practice initially at the St John of God Hospital in Geelong and now is well established in his refurbished rooms at 16 Myers Street.

His training has included undergraduate and postgraduate basic degrees in dentistry and medicine/surgery with which he maintains AHPRA registration.  His Internship and General surgical residency were based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville, Victoria at which he still maintains a VMO Consultant OMFS position. His 4-year specialty training program in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery included a year in Geelong in 2006 working for Barwon Health. It was through this exposure to the region that Richard entertained the vision to return and participate in the development of the Specialty in the Geelong region.

Having transitioned into private practice and gaining an appointment as a VMO Consultant at Barwon Health in 2010, Richard has recently been appointed as the inaugural Director of the OMFS unit at Geelong Hospital.

His surgical interests are based in facial trauma and orthognathic surgery with which he has had excellent training in the major teaching hospitals in Melbourne and through personal and professional relationships with some of Australia’s leading OMF Surgeons in their private practice.

As an enthusiastic and driven practitioner he is focused on the whole patient experience and has fostered a work environment that aims to engage the patient, their family and their concern along with the treatment goals requested by the referring practitioner. The primary goal of the practice is to make the patient journey as seamless and stress-free as possible.
